Julian has been in the construction legal sector for nearly 40 years, with 30 years’ experience as a solicitor in both City and West End law firms specialising in construction dispute resolution. This has included engineering, oil and gas and infrastructure projects. He was formerly the head of the Engineering, Construction and Procurement group at City firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (now Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner).
Julian has been an accredited mediator since 1992 and was a director of CEDR (Centre for Dispute Resolution). He used to be a case notes editor for Construction Law Journal and often acts as an adjudicator.
Since 2010, Julian has run his own dispute resolution consultancy. His clients include contractors, specialist subcontractors and professionals. City law firms often refer matters to him which are not cost-effective for them to handle. He therefore frequently advises clients on domestic building projects.
Julian speaks good conversational French and German and can work with documents in those languages.
